Bear Archery Youth Brave 3 Compound Bow - $40 (Salado).Im a little disappointed with the Bear Youth Bows. I am a fan of Bear Bows, and have shot them personally for many years. I would not recommend this unless you have strong short armed kid. These are formed plastic and the finish is paint - its already starting to show the white plastic below the finish after a few days of use. My 5 year old daughter struggles with the draw weight, but the length is perfect - I would be nice to drop the weight down a bit for her. This is misleading - buy a better bow for 8+ year olds, this is better suited for 6 or 7 year olds. The manual states " While the brave 3 does not have an adjustable draw length, the young archer will achieve full let-off 2-3" at full draw". this is not achieved by set up, but by the young archer to partially pull the string back. The ad says 13.5" to 19.5" draw length range, and 15 to 25 lbs draw weight. There is no way to adjust the weight or draw length. My daughter wants bulls eyes! She gets frustrated with this bow. Now if they are just trying to sling arrows, it would be fine. There is nothing wrong with the quality, but the problem is that for the draw length is too short for your average 8 year old to get full draw and shoot it accurately. This looked to be the perfect little bow to start my 8 year old daughter off with (Rated 8+). That's ok because I got them just so we can have some fun out doors (and prepare for the zombie apocalypse). My kids aren't extra tall or have extra long arms or anything but they aren't able to fully open up their chest when they draw and stand completely sideways. My kids have always been into sports and gymnastics so they are stronger than their peers so they didn't have issues drawing the bow but I can see most kids their age not being able to draw the bow without adjusting the lbs. They are awesome because they have enough lbs to shoot accurate from distance, but can be adjusted for kids that can't draw the bow. I got a set of these for my son 9 and daughter 8. After that we moved back and there were some hilarious misses and some bullseyes! We shot from about 15ft initially to get the mechanics down. Quick safety brief and my kids where able to get arrows on target. I was able to adjust them to shot pretty accurate. Other than that I would recommend these bows to anyone that wants to get their kids outside and involved in this sport for fun or hunting down the road. It talks about maintenance but nothing about not dry firing a compound bow, proper etiquette when retrieving arrows from the target etc etc. The directions don't say much about the day to day use of the bow. First off I'd like to say these are not toys! You can absolutely kill someone or animals with this set.
